John and Linda Sohus married on Halloween in 1983 and were described as “two contented puppies” and “happy to be in each other’s presence.”

John was a part-time computer programmer and Linda was finding success as an artist. They lived with Ruth “Didi” Sohus, John’s mother in San Marino, California. Though they were happy and supportive of each other, they told friends they didn’t like living with Didi, probably due to her alcoholism.

In 1985, it seemed they were getting a break. They both announced they had been asked to interview for new jobs. Linda told her friend, Sue Coffman, that she had received a job offer from the government. She said she could not divulge details but the employers wanted to see them both in New York, and that the trip there would last two weeks. The couple left on February 8, 1985. However, the return date came and went; they did not return home and were never seen alive again.

Gone Missing

Several weeks after the couple vanished, Linda’s sister Kathy received a call from a boarding kennel. They informed her that Linda had left her six cats there, paying for a two-week stay.
